Introduction
The Directorate of Postgraduate Studies (DPS) was established in 2012 with the dynamic efforts of Vice Chancellor, in pursuance of Resolution No.10 passed by the Syndicate in its meeting held on 24.12.2012 to launch the postgraduate programs at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. The Directorate is responsible for coordinating and administrating MS/MPhil & PhD programs in consultation with University Management as well as Institutes/Departments and Directorates of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC). The Directorate not only manages all the functions of the postgraduate matters but also performs responsibilities of process postgraduate students’ admissions and manage matters related to postgraduate Rules and Regulations.
The main objective of Directorate of Postgraduate (DPS) is to provide an ideal environment for quality research and training to MS/MPhil/PhD scholars &supervisors to produce rich scholarly contribution. The Directorate is headed by a Director. All the functions are running through Advanced Studies & Research Board (ASRB) comprising of the Nineteen (19) members including Vice Chancellor, 02 Pro-Vice Chancellors, 06 Deans, 03 University Professors, 03 Member of Academic Council, Directors of QEC&ORIC, the Registrar and Controller of Examinations.
In the beginning, the postgraduate programs were launched in few departments but after the establishment of the Directorate of Postgraduate (DPS) many departments commenced their research programs. Currently, twenty-eight (28) departments are offering MS/MPhil and Twenty-Four (24) departments PhD (Doctoral programs).
Presently there are more than 3000 scholars are enrolled under the MS/MPhil & PhDprograms in various fields of studies.Moreover, enrollment is also increasing from 600 to 700 annually.
Since the establishment of Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, the University has planned to award a considerable number of degrees of MS/MPhil&PhD every year.
Up to 2017 the Directorate has produced 176 MS/MPhil and 13 PhD scholars in various fields of Natural Science, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences & Arts & Languages.
The general requirements for admission to MS/MPhil is BS/BBA/B.Com/BPA (Four Years Degree) LL.B and Master’s Two Years Degree in the relevant discipline at least with 50% from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur or equivalent qualification from any other HEC recognized universities. And pre-requisite for admission to PhD is MS/MPhil or equivalent Degree with 1st division (in the Annual System) or minimum CGPA 3.00 (out of 4.00 in the semester system) in the relevant discipline from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur or any other HEC recognized universities.
