ISLAMABAD, Oct 8, 2026
Press Release
The faculty members of the Department of Computer Science remained engaged in the subsequent technical sessions, which continued until the evening and concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session.
The growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in higher education, institutional governance, research and technological innovation came into focus during a specialized executive training programme titled “The Intelligence Shift: Executive Program on Agentic AI and Governance,” organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, in collaboration with Huawei, on October 8, 2026.
The programme, conducted in hybrid mode from the HEC Smart Classroom, H-8 Campus, Islamabad, brought together university leadership and faculty members to explore global developments in Artificial Intelligence, responsible AI governance, and the practical application of emerging Agentic AI technologies.
Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, along with the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Deans and senior faculty members, participated virtually in the inaugural and morning sessions from the University’s Smart Classroom. Subsequently, the entire faculty of the Department of Computer Science continued participating in the specialized technical training sessions until the evening.
The programme commenced with opening remarks from Huawei, focusing on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in the education sector. The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission also addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of “AI for Education, Education for AI” and the need to strengthen institutional preparedness for an increasingly AI-driven academic environment.
A major session on “Global AI Trends and Governance” was delivered by Li Gongli, Senior Consulting Expert at Huawei Cloud, who discussed the rapidly evolving global AI landscape, its implications for governance, economic development and public services, and the growing significance of AI sovereignty. The session also examined China’s AI policy framework, international developments and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence in governance and public utilities.
Another session, conducted by Farhan Ali, focused on Huawei Cloud under the theme “Global Experience, National Ambition,” highlighting developments in cloud technologies and their relevance to digital transformation.
The afternoon programme was devoted to practical training in Agentic AI, an emerging field in which intelligent systems can use tools, coordinate workflows and perform complex tasks with varying degrees of autonomy.
Yusuf Teoman Bayoğlu, Huawei Agentic Cloud Expert, conducted specialized sessions on CodeArts Agent and OpenJiuwen, introducing participants to agent-based software development, AI orchestration, model configuration and intelligent workflow management.
The technical sessions included guided practical exercises in developing AI agents, configuring models and tools, testing workflows and exploring real-world applications. These activities provided participating faculty members with exposure to contemporary AI development platforms and their potential relevance to teaching, research and technological innovation.
Speaking in connection with the training initiative, Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk emphasized that Artificial Intelligence has become a defining force in the transformation of higher education and institutional management.
“Artificial Intelligence is no longer merely a subject of academic discussion; it is becoming an essential instrument of teaching, research, innovation and governance. Universities must prepare their faculty and students not only to understand these technologies but also to develop the skills required to use them creatively, effectively and responsibly,” Dr. Khushk observed.
He appreciated the collaboration between HEC and Huawei, describing the executive training as a timely initiative to bridge the gap between emerging technological developments and the professional competencies required within universities.
Dr. Khushk further observed that Agentic AI represents an important advancement beyond conventional AI applications, making it increasingly necessary for universities to develop expertise in intelligent systems, automated workflows and responsible AI governance.
He emphasized that faculty development and technological capacity-building are essential for preparing students to meet the changing demands of the global knowledge economy.
“The future of higher education will depend not simply on access to advanced technologies, but on the ability of our teachers and researchers to understand, apply and critically evaluate them. Such training programmes provide an important opportunity to translate technological knowledge into meaningful academic and research practices,” he added.
Among those who participated in the inaugural and morning sessions from SALU were Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi; Dean Professor Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh; Dean Professor Dr. Chandan Lal; Professor Dr. Javed Ahmed Mahar; Professor Dr. Irum Rani; Professor Dr. Masiullah Jatoi; Professor Dr. Hidayatullah Shaikh; Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh; Dr. Asad Kehar; Dr. Mashooque Mahar; Dr. Sahib Oad; and other faculty members.
The participation reflected Shah Abdul Latif University’s commitment to strengthening faculty competencies, promoting AI literacy and integrating emerging technologies into academic and research activities in line with the evolving needs of higher education.
